Dear Parents and Students,
We are very excited about the start of the new school year and we look forward to seeing all of you soon. 950 students will be on campus along with more faculty and staff due to the growth of the school. With this increase in people, we will see many more cars in the parking lots and in the lines for drop off and pick up. On top of that, there is construction across the street from the school as a new mall is going in as well as eventually a new sports complex. Obviously, this will create some traffic issues. We ask in advance for your cooperation as we start the year and wait for the completion of the road repairs on Coors.
On Friday we received the following updates from the contractors pertaining to the intersection of Coors and St. Josephs.
- 7/28 to 8/1 - Closure of WB St. Josephs Dr for the 24” SD Crossing –– The TCPs that will be used are: TCP#67308 & NMDOT Ph2. If you are leaving the main parking lot, there will be detour signs for how to exit to Coors.
- 8/4 to 8/8 - Closure of EB St. Josephs Dr NW to continue the SD Crossing –- The TCPs that will be used are: TCP#67309 & NMDOT Ph2 – For this Closure on 8/1 VMS boards will be set up for BOTH NB & SB traffic on Coors notifying the public of this closure before it is set up
- 7/30 to 8/4 - Closure of EB St. Josephs Dr NW @ Atrisco Blvd NW to the entrance of Chick-fil-A – People exiting at Chick-fil-A will be able to turn east or west during this closure. The TCP that will be used is TCP#067325 – This closure is for the SD pipe & MH that needs to be installed just east of the pond – Once the utility work is complete, we will return back to the current shoulder closure set up for paving operations
When school resumes for Orientation events and the first day of school, we expect the major work on the intersection of Coors and St. Josephs to be completed. However, we advise families to leave for school ten minutes earlier than you might normally plan as construction on other areas adjacent to the school will continue through August. We are sorry for the inconvenience and we are in constant communication with the contractors. They have said that the changes to the corner of Coors and St. Joseph’s will make crossing safer and help manage traffic as we continue to see growth in the west side of town.
Sincerely,
Mike Deely
Head of School
