Announcement from the SPX Board of Trustees – May 16, 2022

The Board of Trustees and Members of Saint Pius X High School Inc. are pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Deely as the new Head of School, effective July 1, 2022. Mr. Deely brings a wealth of experience in Catholic education to St. Pius, having begun his career as a teacher, campus minister, and coach at University San Diego High School from 1994 to 2001. In 2001, he assumed the role of principal at St. Charles Borromeo Academy, and in 2006, he transitioned to Cathedral Catholic High School, a prominent institution within the Diocese of San Diego.

 

During his nine-year tenure at Cathedral, Mr. Deely led initiatives that earned the school recognition as an Apple Distinguished School for its innovative practices and established dual enrollment programs with UCSD, San Diego Mesa College, and Point Loma Nazarene University.

 

Most recently, Mr. Deely served as the Head of School at Pope John Paul II Preparatory School in Nashville, TN. Under his leadership, Pope John Paul II Prep expanded its academic offerings, including STEM programs and the establishment of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. He enhanced the Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses and significantly grew the Arts Department, introducing classes in dance, media, marketing, and graphic design. Additionally, Mr. Deely has contributed as an international speaker and trainer in school leadership for the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has been recognized for his expertise in integrating technology in education.
