Sara Daniele Rivera '08 wins Academy of American Poets First Book Award

The Class of ’08 was spot on with their senior superlatives. The class voted Sara Daniele Rivera most artistic, and she’s lived up to their expectations, her poetry has been published in anthologies and journals. Soon, her first book of fiction, “The Blue Mimes” will be published in 2024. The publication comes with her recent selection by the Academy of American Poets and their First Book Award. She’ll also receive $5,000 and a six-week, all-expenses-paid residency at the Civitella Ranieri Center in Umbria, Italy. Charla Smith ’89, English Department Chair, said “Sara was a most memorable student in my freshman English class. She read and wrote with creative wisdom far beyond her years. She always had an innate talent for the written word.”
