AP and Honors Courses

Testing Timeline and Recommendations

The Pre ACT is a prep test for ACT taken by 9th and 10th grade students. The  PSAT is a prep test for the SAT taken by 10th and 11th grade. Both will be administered and provided by SPX during a school-wide test day in October and an additional test day in February for 10th grade. Students are automatically registered, and no parent/student action is required.

It is recommended for students to take their first ACT or SAT by the end of their junior year. This depends on how far the student has progressed in math. Students having completed or close to completing Algebra II/Trig are better prepared to take these exams and may consider taking them earlier.

All colleges will accept ACT or SAT results. It is the responsibility of the student to register and pay for these tests. To register for ACT visit www.act.org. To register for the SAT visit www.collegeboard.org. For both use SPX school code 320032.

Students who miss a testing day for the PreACT or the PSAT may gain access to an online test ACT/SAT test preparation module called Methodize that can help them gauge their preparedness.

Honors and AP Course Grades

A 5-point grade scale is weighted to reflect the difficulty of Honors and AP courses. AP students are required to take their specific AP exam(s) in May. The final grade for an AP course at St. Pius X is based on the teacher's personally developed grading criteria for the course. AP scores are independently recorded as prospective college credit. (See the SPX mission and philosophy of AP Courses.)
