Sartan Journeys: Ty Jones '06 – Harmony, Healing, and Hope

From the classrooms of St. Pius X to the stage of international barbershop competitions, Ty Jones has walked a journey filled with purpose, perseverance, and passion. A proud member of the Class of 2006, Ty has not only built a successful career in mechanical engineering but has also triumphed over personal adversity and embraced the joy of music and community.

After graduating from St. Pius X, Ty earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico. He then went on to UC Berkeley to pursue his M.S. in the same field. It was during graduate school that Ty faced one of life’s greatest challenges, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Through strength, support, and unwavering faith, Ty underwent treatment and has been cancer-free since 2011.

That same year, on a UC Berkeley basketball court, fate introduced him to Amisha, who would later become his wife. Their love story blossomed through moves and milestones, with Amisha now completing her fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, an inspiring parallel to Ty’s own journey of healing.

Professionally, Ty has become a cornerstone in healthcare infrastructure across Northern California. He has played a key role in commissioning six major acute care hospitals and medical centers, including the New Stanford Hospital, the very institution that played a part in his own healing. With four more hospitals set to open by 2030 under his guidance, Ty’s work is not just technical, it’s deeply personal.

Outside of his career, Ty’s voice has found a stage in harmony. As a member of the Fog City Singers, a top-10 international barbershop chorus based in San Francisco, Ty has found brotherhood and artistry. This July, the chorus competed at the Barbershop Harmony Society International Convention in Denver and earned 4th place in the world, their first international medal in nearly a decade, and a dream come true for Ty.

Reflecting on that weekend, Ty shared, "It was unlike any experience I have ever had… I am so proud of all my brothers in harmony." He also had the blessing of reconnecting with mentors and friends who inspired him from the start of his barbershop journey 16 years ago.

From his days walking the halls of St. Pius X to standing on global stages and shaping healthcare for future generations, Ty Jones exemplifies the heart of a Sartan—resilient, faithful, and ever in pursuit of making the world a better, more beautiful place.
