Baseball
The St. Pius X varsity baseball team kicked off District 5-4A play with a strong statement, notching a pair of impressive wins to move to 9-10 overall and 2-0 in district play. The Sartans defeated Belen 9-4 on Thursday afternoon and followed up with a hard fought 3-1 win over defending state champion Grants on Friday.
St. Pius X showed offensive depth and timely hitting against Belen, collecting seven hits and driving in eight runs across seven innings. Senior Jax Mulville led the charge, going 2-for-3 with a double, a run, and an RBI. Fellow senior Michael Deller scored three runs and added a hit, while Diego Trujillo continued his solid season going a perfect 1-for-1 performance at the plate, adding two RBIs. On the mound, senior Ashton Warren pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits, while striking out three.
In a tightly contested Friday afternoon game against the reigning state champions, freshman Hunter Jiron stole the spotlight with a complete-game. Jiron gave up just one hit, struck out seven, and allowed zero earned runs in seven innings of work. Offensively, the Sartans managed only three hits, but made them count. Trujillo, Zain Unis ‘26, and Mulville each recorded a hit, with Mulville driving in a run with a double.

Golf
The St. Pius X boys and girls golf teams both took home first-place finishes at the SPX Golf Invitational held at the prestigious UNM Championship Golf Course on Tuesday, April 2.
Competing against three other schools, the Sartans delivered a strong all-around performance. On the boys’ side, Jacob Madrid claimed the individual title, while teammate Jax Mulville followed closely behind in second place.
In the girls’ division, Olivia Long continued her stellar season by finishing first overall, and Parker Wilson rounded out the podium with a solid third-place finish.
Softball
The St. Pius X softball team opened District 5-4A play with a commanding win and wrapped up a busy week at 6-12 overall, 1-0 in district. The Sartans defeated Grants 11-0 in their district opener before falling in a competitive doubleheader against Lovington, 6-2 and 2-1, on Saturday.
It was all St. Pius X in their district opener as the team exploded for eight hits and 11 runs in a shutout victory over visiting Grants. The offensive firepower was matched by a dominant pitching performance by sophomore Dominique Morett, who threw five no-hit innings, striking out seven while allowing no walks or earned runs.
At the plate, Aubri Hooee ‘27 went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while 8th grader Diamor Ibarra-Villegas had a perfect day, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, a double, and a triple. Amari Jaramillo ‘27, Isabella Caba ‘26, and Lilee Zarate ‘27 each contributed hits and runs in a balanced team effort.

Powerlifting
The St. Pius X powerlifting team made school history last weekend as they competed in the NMAA State Championships, capping off their first-ever season with several impressive individual finishes and top-ten team placements in both the boys and girls divisions.
In the boys competition, Trevor Wunsch placed fourth in the 132-pound weight class, Justin Duran earned a third-place finish in the 165-pound division, James Martinez took fifth in the 198-pound class, Gabriel Orona finished fifth in the 123-pound class, and Ethan Garcia claimed fourth in the 148-pound division. The boys team finished in tenth place overall, an impressive result for their debut season.
On the girls side, Aili Johnson took third place in the 105-pound class, Sylvianna Ybarra finished fourth in the 114-pound division, and in the 123-pound class, Olympia Neiman and Taylor Alwin placed third and fifth respectively. The girls team also secured a top-ten team finish, placing tenth overall at the state meet.

Middle School
The St. Pius X middle school softball and baseball teams traveled to West Las Vegas on Wednesday for a pair of doubleheaders, with both teams earning victories in the second games.
Middle school softball swept their series, winning both contests and continuing their strong start to the season. The baseball team bounced back from a loss in the first game to take the second, showing resilience and solid play on the road.

Both the boys’ and girls’ water polo teams competed at Highland High School in the Route 66 Tournament.
