Colonel Mike Mullane ’63, astronaut, engineer, weapons systems officer, and retired USAF officer. Col. Mullane flew three missions into space as a NASA mission specialist.

Ramon Gutiérrez ’69, Preston and Sterling Morton Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus of US History at the University of Chicago, is one of the nation’s leading Latino scholars and the recipient of the MacArthur Foundation Prize Fellowship (“genius” grant).

Michael Olivas ’68 (deceased), recipient of the William B. Bates Distinguished Chair in Law at the University of Houston Law Center and Director of the Institute for Higher Education Law and Governance at UH, is a national authority on immigration law.

Rubén Rumbaut ’65, Distinguished Professor of Sociology at the University of California Irvine, is an internationally known scholar of immigration and refugee movements and a leading expert on immigration in the United States.

Donald C. Wunsch ’79, Ph.D. EE, MBA, PE, FIEEE is the Mary K. Finley Missouri Distinguished Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, and was elected IEEE Fellow for “contributions to hardware implementations, reinforcement and unsupervised learning.”
 
Asha Pillai, M.D., ’86, NIH-funded physician-scientist (T-K-R pathways) focused on innate immunity, alloregulation, and immune tolerance leading to the development of novel techniques to apply innate immunity in immunotherapy and transplantation at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Pillai has been active in international humanitarian efforts in India and Africa including founding of Purogati, a 501c3 to support pediatric cancer treatment and blood banking in India.
 
Sports

Michael Murphy ’90 was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies after graduation and went on to play in the minors for eight organizations, including the Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles, and Colorado Rockies. He is the founder and operator of Mike Murphy Baseball, the number one baseball and softball academy in Northern California.
