Overview
Registration is now open for the St. Pius X Summer Camp Experience. The camp runs from June 1st through July 10th (closed on July 3rd), and is intended for students currently enrolled in kinder through 5th grade. Campers will experience a comprehensive and fun summer program on the beautiful 58 acre St. Pius X campus, overlooking the Rio Grande. Parents are assured their children will be in a safe, caring, and faith-based environment, where they will get the same balanced learning experience SPX High School offers during the school year. The expectations of our staff and campers are guided by Catholic principles. We expect campers to live by the “Golden Rule,” to treat others as they would like to be treated.

Cost
The total cost of the 6 week camp is $1,200, plus a $75 registration fee. The $1,200 camp fee is due by Friday, May 22, 2020, the registration fee of $75 is due at time of form submission. After May 22nd, the camp fee will increase by $200. If you received a camp postcard or online ad, refer to its coupon code when making the $1,200 payment to receive a discount. Aftercare will be provided as an optional service from 3:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for $10 per day. Aftercare fees will be billed at the end of each week at a rate of $10 per day or $240 for 6 weeks if payed in advance. If a camper is not signed up for aftercare and is not picked up by 3:15 p.m., the camper will be taken to aftercare at the rate of $10 per day. After 5:30 p.m. a rate of $1.00 per minute will be billed.

Schedule
Our schedule begins Monday, June 1, 2020 and ends on Friday, July 10, 2020. The camp will be closed on July 3rd. The day is from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Drop off begins at 7:30 a.m. Aftercare is available from 3:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for an additional charge.

Daily Activities
Each day will start with energetic and inspiring faith time, as everything “Starts with God” in our world! Each week will have a specific learning theme that will take our campers to all academic worlds on campus. Fun learning activities will be incorporated into each week’s theme with the goal of working out a camper’s mind through the summer. Our hope is that campers encounter what we like to call “accidental learning” along the way.

Fitness is a key factor in our lives, and our campers will not only learn skills from our various sports teams and their coaches, but also experience general fitness instruction and fun. The sports journeys will take place during the cooler morning hours each day. The afternoon activities take our campers to the arts.

The final part of each regular day will be dedicated to reading, where some will curl up with a good book, or read along with each other. Should a camper be a bit sleepy from such a busy day, there is no harm in a little nap until 3:00 p.m. Aftercare will be provided from 3:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for an extra $10 per day. Appropriate movies and learning videos will be shown in our theater during that time.

Staff
The St. Pius X Summer Camp Experience staff will include elementary teachers from local area Catholic schools, faculty from each of the St. Pius X academic disciplines, and coaches from many of our campus sports teams. Some SPX students will serve as camp assistants, and many more students will assist with the sports and arts activities. All teachers and coaches are certified, and all leaders and students will complete the required ASF programs to work with youth.

Lunch
Lunch time will be a time to make new friends while eating their parent’s homemade sack lunch! We ask that parents prepare a lunch that includes a nice message from home, as each camper will share those happy thoughts. After lunch will be the daily walk-about that will explore the many landmarks of the St. Pius X campus. Afternoon snacks will be provided.

Uniform
Each camper will receive two camp shirts which are worn as their daily uniform. Wednesdays are school pride days when campers may wear their own school’s t-shirt. Campers may wear shorts, pants or sweats that allow for activity. Tennis shoes are required.
