Instrumental Music

St. Pius X offers classes for all levels of musicians in orchestra, concert band, piano, and guitar. Our ensemble approach to instruction creates an environment for students to focus on music appropriate to their skill level.

Instrumental classes are taught by Keith Jordan. He has a background in modern jazz and music theory, and has taught for 42 years. Before starting at St. Pius X in 2011, he was with La Cueva High School for 25 years and Murray High School for 6 years.

As band director, his bands placed either first, second, or third in the state band contest for ten years in a row, winning state several times. Mr. Jordan's jazz bands won state three times, and various ensembles won sweepstakes awards in out-of-state festivals over twenty times.

St. Pius X has taken Gold 1st superior medals and plaques in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and various out of state trips. Our students regularly make the District VII Honor Band for the past 7 years and NMMEA's All-State Convention at UNM for the past 11 years in a row. Numerous students have played with Honor Ensembles in Carnegie Hall and in Australia with honor ensembles.

In additional to teaching, Mr. Jordan is a professional musician who plays the tuba, euphonium, piano, and organ. He was previously a member of and toured with the King’s Brass quintet. He also substituted with NMSO on both piano and tuba. He’s been a member of the Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra, San Juan Symphony, Santa Fe Symphony, and Roswell Symphony. Mr. Jordan has also been an orchestra director at various churches throughout the metro area.
