AP and Honors Courses

A 5-point grade scale is weighted to reflect the difficulty of Honors and AP courses. AP students are required to take their specific AP exam(s) in May. The final grade for an AP course at St. Pius X is based on the teacher's personally developed grading criteria for the course. AP scores are independently recorded as prospective college credit. (See the SPX mission and philosophy of AP Courses.)

Advanced Placement Information Night

We are pleased that so many of our students choose to challenge themselves by registering for one or more Advanced Placement courses each year. We appreciate the commitment these students take on, and we are equally convinced that our parents need to be aware of the expectations that AP courses hold so that students are prepared to meet this challenge.

Advanced Placement courses are rigorous and require a significant commitment. In order to fully appreciate the academic benefits and responsibilities being assumed, St. Pius X High School will be sponsoring an Advanced Placement Information Night for all parents and students who are interested in registering for an Advanced Placement course.

This MANDATORY meeting will be held on

Wednesday, January 17, 2018

6:00 pm in the Gym.

In order for a student to be placed in one or more AP classes in the fall of 2018, the student, with a parent or guardian, must attend this meeting.

Students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to graduate in 4 years. To learn more about AP and how it can decrease the total cost of college, please read this document before attending the meeting.
