SPX mourns the loss of Ann Connolly, computer lab teacher, who passed away October 19. The family is requesting donations for tuition assistance to SPX in lieu of flowers.

 

The SPX community mourns the loss of Judith Joyce (Civerolo) Shattuck, class of 1960, who died on September 18 in Friendswood, Texas. She was elected the first Homecoming Queen (Pantherama Queen) in her senior year. The family has requested donations in her memory to go to St. Pius X.

Memorial Service for John Robbins

A memorial service for John Robbins, a teacher at St. Pius X from 1978-1980 and 1989-1999 will be held at 10am on Saturday, September 11 in the Fine Arts Center, stage II.

Mr. Robbins was recently, named to the SPX Wall of Honor by the faculty. A math teacher, tennis coach, volleyball coach, faculty folly guitar player, comic strip artist, he was remembered at the ceremony as a master motivator, happy, kind, and funny. One account of him, “Students loved his Algebra II class. John made students believe in themselves and taught them that math was nothing to be afraid of. His students felt privileged to have an understanding teacher who was willing to infuse humor into his lessons and accept them just as they were, warts and all.”

2010 Hall of Honor Announced

The SPX Hall of Honor will recognize five outstanding individuals who are community leaders and embody the school motto, “Teach me goodness, discipline, and knowledge” at the Hall of Honor/Vincioni Award ceremony at 6pm on September 28 at the school during Homecoming week.

This year’s Hall of Honor inductees will be
• Archbishop Michael J. Sheehan – the leader of the Catholic community and a supporter of Catholic schools
• John (1970 graduate) and Muffin Menicucci – SPX parents instrumental in the building of the baseball stadium
• John Cordova – a 1976 graduate, a sports marketing pioneer and head of Coca-Colas’s domestic pro sports marketing
• Rubén Rumbaut – a 1965 graduate and professor at UC - Irvine, a nationally recognized scholar in the area of immigration.

The SPX community is invited to the ceremony and reception. It will begin with the rededication of the Alumni Scholarship Circle on the walkway to the gym and continue at the Fine Arts Center where awards will be presented followed with refreshments.

Sartans get lesson from former NFL players

The football team got a surprise visit on July 15 from four former NFL athletes.  Dokey Williams (Raiders), Kenny Blair (Eagles), Ron Fellows (Cowboys) & Rod Barksdale (Cowboys). It was FANTASTIC! They stressed team, Christianity, and a drug-free way of life. Ron and Dokey will be back during Homecoming Week to play in the  Sartan Classic  Golf Tournament, October 1 at Santa Ana Golf Club.  Thank you Coach Mendoza for welcoming them.  (See Photo)

Class of 1960 celebrates historic 50th reunion

The first graduating class of 1960 marked 50 years since its graduation day. St. Pius X hosted a reception for class members on Friday, June 11 in the Fine Arts center of the school. The class also gathered a Saturday night dinner-dance with a dj providing music from the 50s and 60s at The Inn at Rio Rancho.(See photos)
Amy Baca Lopez '93 produces video to show green Albuquerque

Amy Baca Lopez, '93 produced and directed the To-Go Fashion Show video released on Earth Day to show what Albuquerque is doing to keep the planet and society healthy. She worked with hundreds of local businesses, organizations, groups, and residents to create this entirely volunteer effort. It is a truly a marvelous celebration of community. (See video)
