Achievements in Athletics
The St. Pius X Athletics Department oversees 21 programs made up of 51 individual teams. St. Pius X is a member of the New Mexico Activities Association, which serves both boys and girls programs. Interscholastic competition is held in football, basketball, soccer, cross country, volleyball, wrestling, swimming, baseball, softball, golf, tennis and track. Hockey is offered as a club sport. Students can also participate in cheerleading and dance team.
Teams have achieved a record number of state championship titles in Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Boys Basketball, and Girls Basketball, with a number of student athletes receiving scholarships to Division One university athletic programs. Both boys and girls basketball celebrated dual 2008 4A State Championship titles and the girls took the State Championship again in 2009.
Four students break school records at NM State Track Championship
Four students upset SPX records at the NM State Track and Field Competition at UNM on May 8.- Christy Barela (’10) set the 800m run school record held by Lena Lopez (’94) - Her time was 2:19.45, earning her 3rd at the state meet.
- Marissa Nathe (’13) set the 3200m run school record, also held by Lena Lopez (‘94) – Her time was 11:48.64, earning her a 4th place finish at the state meet.
- Jacob Garcia (’10) set the triple jump school record held by Morris Huling (’06) – His jump was 42’ 11”, earning the top spot at the district meet.
- Jalen McGee ('12) set the school record in the 200m during the preliminary rounds at state. She placed 4th in the finals.
Samantha Brown signs letter of intent for Notre Dame

Senior Samantha Brown signed her letter of intent to play volleyball for Notre Dame in the fall of 2010. Samantha will play either middle hitter or opposite hitter for the team. She credits her successes to her coaches, the support of her teammates and the backing of her parents. The 6'1" senior said, "Notre Dame has so many traditions. I thought it was an awesome school."
